Did this year go by fast or what?

In keeping with that theme, let's waste no time and get right to my 10 biggest women's sports stories of 2005. Enjoy, and best wishes for a happy and healthy 2006.

10. Victorious Venus: After battling through numerous injuries and setbacks over the last couple of years, tennis star Venus Williams finally got back on track in July by winning Wimbledon.

It was her first appearance in a Grand Slam final since 2003 and her first Grand Slam victory since 2001, when she won both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

Williams is still playing catch-up to little sister Serena, though. Venus' win at Wimbledon gives her five Grand Slam titles. Serena, who won the Australian Open this year, has seven.

9. Ten-year toast: Talk about going out with a bang.

The DePaul women's basketball team, which joined the Big East Conference this school year, couldn't have asked for a better way to end its 10-year stint in Conference USA.

In honor of its 10th anniversary in 2004-05, the league came up with some neat ways to recognize excellence over the last 10 years.
