State legislators next year are expected to discuss a proposal touted as a way to make school district mergers easier, and that has the attention of Lake County educators.

Officials with the Illinois State Board of Education say mergers can lead to schools' trimming administrative expenses, increasing efficiency and creating a more unified curriculum for students in areas served by multiple districts.
