Two weeks ago, a Naperville woman fled to the Hamdard Women and Children's Shelter in Wood Dale because her ex-husband was stalking her.

A Chicago woman who is five-and-a-half months pregnant sought out the shelter because she was threatened and struck by a cousin.

These women, whose names are omitted to protect them from their abusers, know that domestic violence doesn't stop in time for the holiday season.

According to director Maryam Jilani, the shelter, which is almost always full, receives an alarming increase in calls during the holidays.
