Critics have long questioned the legitimacy of the United Nations (UN) and for a good number of reasons.

The Security Council, the UN's main peacekeeping body has not lived up to its mandate and UN bureaucracy which has been "grossly inflated over the years" is widely inefficient. The international law enforcement system is centered on the Security Council but it has "significantly failed to function." It was not able to stop either Saddam Hussein's brutalities on his own people or the US-led war on Iraq, nor was it able to guarantee either Israel's security or Palestinian's human rights and dignity.
