Article Excerpt Call it the little TV station that could. And can. And still does.
But WRNN is no longer a little station, having outgrown its original 200,000 base to 5.3 million TV households. It is now a formidable media outlet that pays little attention to other stations.
It has bulked up on infomercials and shopping programs with little care for top-rated sitcoms or dramas like the giant networks in the industry. Rather, it has carved its niche as a regional news network; thus its acronym and call letters RNN.
The station, which recently opened its new studio and base of operations in Rye Brook at the former General Foods building, is overseen by Dick French St. The more than 6-foot, broad-shouldered French is an imposing figure who disarms guests with his engaging smile. He still retains his north-of-Boston accent years after leaving Haverhill, Mass., for the U.S. Army and then the bright lights of the Big Apple.
