Of all the new stores that have opened lately within his Beach Shopping Center in Peekskill, Adam Ifshin says Tuesday Morning shows the value of his company's relationships with national chains.

The Dallas-based off-price housewares retailer opened its first New York state store earlier this year after overcoming initial misgivings about cost. It helped, Ifshin said, that DLC had moved Tuesday Morning into centers his company owns in Williamsburg, Va., and Atlanta.

"As a result, we had built a relationship with them, and a track record. We had been after them. We said, "You really ought to come.' And they said they couldn't afford the rents," Ifshin recalled.

The solution was a 7,575-square-foot corner space that was hard to rent:. "We stretched a little bit and they stretched a little bit to make a deal happen so that they could come into the market."
