With county money at hand, med center pursues Albany bailout.

As county lawmakers prepare today to authorize spending $57 million to help bail out Westchester Medical Center through next year, the troubled regional hospital faces a second and higher hurdle to getting into the black.

Westchester's delegation of state legislators has yet to agree among themselves on the details of a larger-scale bailout from Albany, let alone come to terms with Gov. George E. Pataki, who would need to sign a rescue package into law.

"We're not at the drafting stage. I think we're moving toward the conceptual stage of what we need to do," said Assemblyman Richard Brodsky (D-Greenburgh).

Assemblywoman Amy Paulin (D-Scarsdale) said delegation members have met among themselves in recent weeks to study how to bridge the differences in the rescue plans between the Assembly, state Senate and Gov. George E. Pataki (See chart).
