This is an important volume for understanding the proper depth and extent of Husserlian phenomenology. As many phenomenological scholars know, because Husserl worked out many problems in his manuscripts, which remained unpublished at the time of his death, the understanding of his philosophy based solely upon his published works gives a distorted picture of the scope of his philosophy. Not that there aren't significant contributions in the books published during his lifetime but the interpretations brought to bear by subsequent scholars put limits around his phenomenology that simply do not belong. The continuing editing and publication of these manuscripts and lectures by Husserl under the auspices of the Husserl-Archives at Leuven University is providing the scholarly world with a genuine gift and their eventual translation into English is spreading a more correct version of Husserl's over-all philosophy and, hence, his importance.
