If a college basketball team can have a one-game non-league schedule, it might be Washington. But what a one game, playing host to Gonzaga this Sunday night for an FSN telecast.
`I'm the most excited I've been for a game since we played Stanford when they were No. 1 (two seasons ago),' Washington's Brandon Roy said. `I feel we have all the pieces to beat Gonzaga.'
The 18th-ranked Huskies have a lot going for them, but is it enough to overcome the 'Zags, sixth in the national rankings this week? Washington hasn't beaten Gonzaga in eight years, losing by margins of 11, 10, 12, 20, six in overtime, 24 and 12 points during that span.
`I've heard that we ain't beaten them in forever and that everybody's looking forward to beating them,' UW freshman point guard Justin Dentmon said. `Plus, we get them here, so I don't think we're going to lose here.'
Washington (6-0) has its home winning streak up to 28, a current national best, though it hasn't exactly been a challenging early schedule.
`If we beat Gonzaga, it should put all the criticism to rest about how weak our schedule is,'...
