TROON, Scotland - Welcome to the Qatar Masters.

Royal Troon was supposed to play host to the season's third major this week. But with round one in the books, the 133rd British Open looks more like a minor European Tour event.

Despite perfect scoring conditions on the 7,175-yard, par-71 Ayrshire Links, golf's marquee names were a no-show at Troon yesterday, leaving Europeans Thomas Levet and Paul Casey tied atop a no-name leader board shockingingly devoid of an American presence.

"It was probably as easy as you'll ever see it," said Tiger Woods (70) of normally brutish Troon. "Today was supposed to be blowing, and it ended up being probably one of the best days you'll ever see at a British Open."
