LCDR Franklin W. Bennett

USS NIMITZ (CVN 68)

LCDR Bennett has a leadership career filled with accomplishments directed at sustaining Naval aviation at the highest levels of readiness. His exceptional dedication to aviation maintenance is combat proven and is instrumental in this battle group's performance in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is directly responsible for 200 sailors/marines in support of 66 Navy and Marine Corps aircrafts. His leadership skills include successful completion of more than 8,000 maintenance actions to sustain aircraft flying combat missions for the war on terrorism. His team contributions and enthusiasm were pillars for Nimitz Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department receiving its second consecutive Black Efficiency Award and the ship being Commander, Naval Air Forces' nomination for 2005 Secretary of Defense Maintenance Award.

LCDR Bennett's first operational command was VP-11 in Maine where he deployed to NAS Sigonilla, Sicily and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Shield. He also deployed to Puerto Rico and Panama where his squadron performed counter-narcotic missions in the Caribbean. Bennett joined the Naval Reserves under the NROTC program. Commissioned an Ensign in 1996 and attached to VAQ-140 in Washington, he spent time as quality assurance officer, assistant maintenance and maintenance material control officer for the EA-6B Prowler aircraft....
