Initially, first-time visitors to the Caribbean are most impressed by the striking color of the sea. Describing these waters accurately may necessitate using the word turquoise, but I've committed myself to avoiding that overly familiar comparison. The first time I described the Caribbean Sea, I said that it was as blue as a Montana sky. But that didn't acknowledge the delicate shade of green that can sometimes be seen adjacent to the blue. The blue is an almost mystically lucid blue, the blue of watercolors rather than oil paintings; and the green tends to be precisely the color of a lime daiquiri.
