The ongoing fallout from Hurricane Katrina sheds light on our woeful energy policies, demonstrating that we are so vulnerable that even a temporary shutdown of oil refineries in one corner of the country will have a huge impact on gasoline prices across the country and in California.

Why? Supply and demand. And not simply the supply of oil we get from the Middle East, Venezuela and others.
