DETROIT - The way Sunday's NFC North first-place showdown was going late in the game and into overtime, with both offenses malfunctioning, it seemed as if victory would require a big defensive play by someone.

So with 8:43 left in the extra session, Bears cornerback Charles "Peanut" Tillman, who has been bad-mouthed much of the season for permitting 4 touchdown passes in a three-game stretch, made the biggest play possible.

Tillman intercepted an ill-advised Jeff Garcia pass - the last of several Garcia threw - before it could get near Lions receiver Mike Williams. Tillman sprinted 22 yards untouched into the end zone where he was mobbed by teammates.

The 19-13 victory, the Bears' first after 3 losses at Ford Field, elevated them to 4-3, a game ahead of the Lions in the standings but essentially 2 up because they swept the season series.
