Detroit has a storied advertising heritage that members of the 100-year-old Adcraft Club of Detroit plan to celebrate in a big way this year.

From Timex's "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking'' to Chevrolet's "The Heartbeat of America'' campaign, Detroit agencies can boast lots of memorable creative work through the decades.

It's also an industry - and a club - that has experienced vast change. Long lunches have been replaced by extra client scrutiny. The workforce has diversified.

The Adcraft Club mirrored these trends. It began admitting its first female members in 1974. Three years ago, it nixed the longstanding every-Friday lunch schedule in favor of a less-regular schedule based on the availability of high-profile speakers.
