Article Excerpt This spring marks the third year of the Melville Society Cultural Project s programming with the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and we are pleased with the richness and coherence of our events. The 2005 Melville Lyceum Lecture Series presented three lectures on the topic "Melville and Douglass" in preparation for the June conference "Frederick Douglass and Herman Melville: A Sesquicentennial Celebration" in honor of My Bondage and My Freedom and "Benito Cereno." Even with the winter weather, we continue to attract welcoming and consistently large audiences for these evening programs. We thank the New Bedford Whaling Museum, especially Anne Brengle, Lee Heald, and Karen Allen, for their warm and unfailing support of our efforts.
On February 3, Laurie Robertson-Lorant, of the Education Department at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, spoke on "Wearing the Mask: Slavery, Rebellion, and Performance Art in Melville's 'Benito Cereno.'"
