Gangs, hate groups and violent bullying are growing problems in Lane County, and the Department of Youth Services is urging parents, teachers and the community as a whole to proactively address the problem.

That means identifying at-risk teens before they get involved in violent behavior, a group of Lane County officials said Thursday.

To that end, youth services has launched an awareness campaign called MIND Our Teens, with a grant from the Oregon Youth Authority. The department will distribute brochures and posters at area schools, libraries and public places, and share an informational video with community...
