Out on his daily jog one chilly September morning three years ago, Sachie Sachdeva found himself in the middle of a parade.
He decided to run with it. He's been back every year since.
Sachdeva, a 50-year-old motel owner who sells real estate on the side, has quickly become one of the most beloved, albeit unofficial, entries in the annual Eugene Celebration Parade. Wearing his trademark stars-and-stripes shirt, ball cap and jogging shorts, he runs laps throughout the two-plus-hour parade, delighting the crowd.
Matt Purvis, a longtime parade watcher and, for the past two years, board member of Downtown Events Management Inc., said Sachdeva's identity has always been a mystery to him.
"We call him Running Man," said Purvis, whose organization oversees the celebration. "We stand there at the parade and every time he goes around the cheers get louder and louder.
