New head coach, meet same old stumbling block.

UO VOLLEYBALL

The Pac-10 volleyball season began this past weekend, and it took Oregon's Jim Moore all of one match to come face-to-face with the Ducks' 15-year-old mental hurdle that is conference competition.

Despite a 10-1 nonconference record - its best start in 32 seasons - and playing a team that Moore said, "wasn't as good as at least three nonleague teams" the Ducks had already defeated, Oregon lost to a 6-6 Arizona State team in three games last Friday in its league opener.

The Ducks' performance wasn't just befuddling to Moore, who is in his first season at Oregon (10-3, 0-2), it was also eye-opening.
