Bring the heat or get burned - that's the lesson Naperville North taught Wheaton Warrenville South on Thursday.

The Huskies' 2-0 win over the Tigers in a pivotal DuPage Valley Conference boys soccer game in Naperville was built on an intensity that the Huskies had from the opening whistle and the Tigers struggled to match.

"If we're having an off night, anyone can beat us," said Huskies coach Jim Konrad. "When our guys are playing at their best, we're right there with anyone in the state."

Following Tuesday's physical, 2-1 win over defending DVC champion West Chicago, Naperville North (14-2, 4-0) again took the field with an edge Thursday, going hard through every ball and beating the Tigers to the punch throughout the first half.

"We came out slow and sluggish, and I don't know why," said Tigers forward Kevin Briars. "We came out soft, and that's what killed us."

After shining in Tuesday's win over West Chicago, Huskies senior Chris Talac took another step into the spotlight Thursday, scoring the game's first goal in the 27th minute.

Huskies midfielder Mark Plotkin reached the end line on the left side, centered a ball to the goalmouth, Talac finished on the play with his shin, and the Huskies' first-half pressure had its payoff.

"Konrad has been putting me in because we've had injuries, and I've been taking advantage of it," said Talac, who has scored 5 goals coming off the bench.

"He's been great for us all year," Konrad said. "He gets in there and works."
