Ipivot founder radiates with newest challenge: retirement at an early age didn't suit Coradiant's Helm.

When Coradiant Inc., a Rancho Bernardo high-tech company that moved from Boston to San Diego this year, looked for a new chief executive, it found the perfect candidate on its own board--Chairman Brett Helm.

A seasoned technology executive, Helm, 43, has seen major success within the industry during some two decades, including heading up Ipivot, a San Diego company that was purchased in 1999 by Intel Corp. for about $500 million.

He's also seen the lows of the dot-com bust as the CEO of AirFiber Inc., a local tech startup that captured more than $92 million in venture capital but shut down in 2003 when it couldn't find many customers for its product.

These days, Helm is feeling far more optimistic about his latest venture's prospects.
