Kane County lost one of its most prominent attorneys and prominent Democrats last week when Clarence J. Ruddy, 99, died at his home in Aurora.

Ruddy was born in Batavia but spent most of his life in Aurora where he started the law firm Myler, Ruddy & McTavish. He retired from the law in 1985 but remained a counsel for the firm he helped make flourish.

Ruddy excelled at most anything he did. In college he became the first editor-in-chief of what is now the Notre Dame Law Review. As a practicing attorney he would take a turn at serving as the Illinois assistant attorney general from 1933 to 1941 and serving as special assistant to the attorney general from 1961...
