Del Mar Racetrack a big winner for local economy.

The horse racing industry is a vital contributor to the local economy while bringing heart-thumping entertainment to nearly one million racing fans each summer. The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club's annual race meeting delivers a big payoff to the region's municipalities and businesses. A recent University of San Diego School of Business study put the Del Mar Racetrack's economic impact in San Diego County at nearly $90 million in spending each year.

The track also provides 3,300 jobs during the summer, with a payroll of $17 million. Including owners, service providers, employees and volunteers, the track estimates that more than 5,000 people are involved in producing the summer races.
