When Douglas E. Barnhart Inc. was established in 1983, U.S. Navy and Marine projects helped establish the local company as one of the top contractors in San Diego. The company has since grown into one of California's largest contractors, many thanks to the relationship it has developed with the military.

The first of many military projects completed by Barnhart was the construction of three firing ranges at Camp Pendleton, awarded by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command.
