Henry Sauer

SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be held July 2 for Henry "Hank" Sauer of Springfield, who died June 26 of congestive heart failure. He was 83.

Sauer was born March 31, 1921, in Wendling to Conrad and Emilie Daines Sauer. He married Evelyn Campbell in Vancouver, Wash., on Aug. 16, 1947.

He was a lifetime resident of this area and graduated from Mohawk High School in 1940. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He worked as a foreman and in the quality control department for Weyerhaeuser for 37 years.

He served on the board of the Northwest Community Credit Union and Young Life. He was a member of the Wendling Preservation Association and the Springfield Faith Center. He served as the grand marshal at the Mary Cole Day festival in Marcola in 2002.

He enjoyed telling stories, gardening and fishing. He especially enjoyed his friends and family.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Dianne Nowak of Springfield; a son, Ron of Springfield; a sister, Katherine Dunnavin of Cottage Grove; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Friday's memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Springfield Faith Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the hospice program at Willamette Community Health Solutions, 1457 G. St., Springfield, OR 97477, the Springfield Faith Center or to Young Life.
