It's not a volunteer job that anyone does for fun, responding at a moment's notice to help a traumatized victim of violent crime.

But Todd Patopea says he will miss it when the district attorney's 24-hour response team folds after today for budget reasons.

Same goes for the police officers and emergency room workers who will take on the added task of dealing with the emotional and practical needs of victims - chores the victim services response team has done for the past 12 years.

However, the volunteers aren't ready to give up just yet.
