In early 2003, thousands of Eugene residents participated in demonstrations aimed at preventing the invasion of Iraq. While the demonstrations here - joined by those of millions of other Americans across the country - were impressive, the country was sharply divided over the war, and the protests failed to stop the invasion.

We now know the only reason the country was so divided is that our government lied to us. We now know not only that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, but that the government knew this even when they were telling us otherwise.
