Luther Slaughter
SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be held Sept. 9 for Luther B. Slaughter of Springfield, who died Aug. 27 of age-related causes. He was 85.
Slaughter was born July 28, 1920, in Mason, Texas, to James and Ellen Logan Slaughter. He married Ella Jones on June 8, 1947, in Klamath Falls.
He received a bachelor's degree from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. He worked for Burch's Shoes from 1945 to 1952, then worked for the Weyerhaeuser Co. until 1982.
Slaughter had served as a lay minister to various Southern Baptist churches in Oregon and was the senior adult minister for Trinity Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife; a son, William "Bill" of Farmers Branch, Texas; a daughter, Sue Slaughter-Nichols of Springfield; two brothers, Garland of San Angelo, Texas, and Archie of Kerrville, Texas; a sister, Kathryn Densmoore of Granite Shoals, Texas; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, Stephen, died previously.
The Sept. 9 service will be at 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Springfield. Private burial will be in Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene. Rest-Haven Memorial Park & Funeral Home is in charge of arrange- ments.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church or the Gideon Bible Society.
Jess Fuller
COTTAGE GROVE - A celebration of life open house will be held Sept. 2 for Jess Edward Fuller of Cottage Grove, who died Aug. 29 of age-related causes. He was 83.
Fuller was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Hermiston, to Earl and Elnora Haney Fuller. He married Ella "Joanne" Kamping on Nov. 27, 1944, in Klamath Falls.
He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945, working to maintain the White Pass-Yukon Railway in Alaska. He worked in the lumber industry most of his adult life. Fuller enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and playing the mouth harp and guitar at family gatherings. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Wayne and Tony, both of Cottage Grove, Karl of Springfield and Dale of Santa Clara, Utah; a daughter, Connie McKillop of Lyons; two brothers, Alvin of Bonanza and John of Crescent; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friday's celebration will be at 2 p.m. at the Fuller home. Private family burial will be later....
