James Finley, a transfer who had established himself as a starting wide receiver and appeared ready to make an immediate impact on the Oregon football team, may instead be held out of the opening game Thursday at Houston due to an eligibility issue.

Asked prior to Tuesday's practice about the probability of Finley playing, UO coach Mike Bellotti said `I've been told it's 50-50.'

Because of federal laws governing student privacy, Bellotti didn't disclose specifics of the matter.

`It's an issue that arose during the summer,' Bellotti said. `It's something that has to go to the NCAA level to be clarified.'
