The Ducks are coming off a losing season. Their last season opener was a humiliating loss to an opponent that had no business winning. The last time the Ducks played a game, they were sorely drubbed.
If ever an Oregon football team needed a win, it's Thursday at Houston, given Oregon's 5-6 record of last season, and the ominous loss to Indiana in the opener a year ago, and the 50-21 loss to Oregon State in the season finale.
Except, in the scheme of things, it was no less important for Oregon to win the only other time these two schools have met, on Sept. 24, 1983, at Autzen Stadium.
Not only were the Ducks coming off a losing season, at 2-8-1, but they were 4-20-1 in their last 25 games, and had lost their last four season openers, including, just 21 days earlier, a defeat even more ignominious than the Indiana loss, a 21-15 loss to a Pacific team that had arrived in Eugene just three hours before kickoff after an unscheduled stop in Redmond because...
