In the Delta, things are happening in the economic development realm, but leaders say they have available space for any businesses looking for a home. There are facilities, infrastructure and a willing workforce eager to welcome a wide variety of companies. There is also optimism boosted by recent successes.

Greenville's Tommy Hart, executive director of the Industrial Foundation of Washington County, reminds that the Textron Fastening Systems, a $38-mil-lion investment for his area, was the largest plant announced in the state in 2004. It is in operation now at the 200-employee range and is expected to reach 400 to 500 as the large automotive supplier continues to build.

In Cleveland's Charles Dean Industrial Park, Faurecia opened at the end of June making metal seat frames and employing 300 people.

The economic picture also remains positive in Sunflower and Leflore counties with stable companies.
