So how was the start to Maine West's girls volleyball season Tuesday night?

"It was amazing," said Warriors senior Candace Plantz, who collected a match-high 7 blocks with 4 kills in her team's 25-23, 26-24 triumph over visiting Elk Grove. "This sets the tone for the rest of our season. We're excited to see what follows."

The nonconference opener followed junior Dana Gustafson's singing of the national anthem. The junior, who put down 4 kills in the match, also plays No. 1 French horn in the school's band.
