Muggy Murphy has nothing personal against chicken, pork and fish, but she'll take beef just about any day.

Healthy as a cow, if you'll pardon the expression, and energetic as a calf, 71-year-old Muggy (pronounced "moogy") steers her meals toward beef, even recipes that call for chicken.

"Between sandwiches at lunch and dinners, we can eat it five to six times a week, easy," she says of her family. "When people say they haven't had beef in years, well, they don't know what they're missing, but to each his own."

That practically makes Muggy a poster child, or perhaps poster grandmother, for the 26th National Beef Cook-Off. In fact, this grandmother of six is one of 20 national finalists who will compete Sept. 21 for the $50,000 "Best of Beef" grand prize. The competition takes place in Rapid City, S.D., in the heart of cattle country, where Muggy will have 45 minutes to prepare her Stuffed Saucy Meatballs & Pasta.
