SPRINGFIELD - There are plenty of historians among the nearly 140 student-athletes who turned out to play football for Thurston High School this fall.

Senior Brett Leavitt just might be at the top the list.

Nobody seems to grasp the significance of Friday's season-opening nonleague football game against visiting Mountain View of Bend better than the Colts' projected starter at quarterback.

The contest will be played at Thurston - making it the first home football game in the 45-year history of the school.

`We're going to be a part of history, and that's a big deal to a lot of us,' Leavitt said. `I get to take the first offensive snap (for the Colts) on this field, and that's going to be something I will always remember. I get to tell my kids that come play here that I was the first person to take a snap here.'
