Marvin Minick
Marvin S. Minick of Eugene died Aug. 27 of heart failure. He was 86.
He was born Aug. 18, 1919, in Hot Springs, S.D., to John and Olga Scott Minick. He married Thelma Coleman on May 10, 1947, in Eugene.
A resident of Oregon since 1936, he graduated from Oregon State University in 1948. He served in the Army Air Corps' 570 Bombardment Squad from January 1943 to December 1945 and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Oak Leaf Cluster and Bronze Star medal. He retired as a major.
He worked for the Oregon highway department and retired from Weyerhaeuser 32 years ago.
He enjoyed golf, reading and his home and family. His family remembers him as a "workaholic" and that he "enjoyed his greenhouse." He was a member of the Masons and the Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen McVay of Eugene; and a sister, Betty Dyer of Eugene. A daughter, Kathy Minick, died Dec. 18, 1998.
