Proulx provides a detailed account of the need for and development of the Community Council Project (CCP), an alternative justice program designed for Aboriginal people in Toronto. The CCP diverts offenders from the provincial court system while working closely with prosecutors and judges. Proulx uses case study information and a wealth of interview data gathered from clients accused of criminal behaviour, as well as from volunteers involved in assessment and "sentencing," which for the CCP is more accurately a long-term healing process.
