Hunt Mississippi Dove hinges on public-private partnerships.

I've heard it said that good dove hunts are hard to come by these days, but I suspect that if hunters would just do a little homework they could find a place to conduct a pretty good dove hunt. Even so, there is still a cry from dove gunners all over the state for more public places to hunt with easier access near to population centers.

Enter on the scene the Hunt Mississippi Dove Program sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWF&P). This unique program proposes to open up new dove fields via cooperative agreements with private landowners all over the state.

The dove hunting tradition

I grew up dove hunting in Southeast Missouri where dove hunters literally flew in from all over the world for the opening weekend. It was a huge social event there much like it is in certain sectors of Mississippi today.
