Mydoom a reminder to use safe computing practices.

At one point, the recent Mydoom virus was said to be one of the widest spread viruses ever seen on the Internet.

Spread through e-mails that tricked people into opening a file that looked like a normal error message, there were estimates that Mydoom was responsible for one out of 12 messages being sent on the Internet at the height of the infection.

Both the Mydoom.A and Mydoom.B worm variants had attached files that installed a malicious code on the computer User's system and sent copies of itself to all contacts in the user's address book. Both versions of the worm potentially left a "backdoor" to the computer, allowing unauthorized access by hackers.

Some corporate networks across the country were clogged with infected traffic within hours of the worm's appearance. But most responded quickly to block the virus.

Businesses in Mississippi without their own servers also didn't report much difficulty with the Mydoom virus. Mydoom (also known as Novarg) was considered a much smaller problem...
