Members of the Eugene Police Department's special street-crimes unit were accused of "inappropriate contact" with prostitutes in January 2000, prompting an investigation that led to the resignation of a sergeant and punishment for 12 members of the Rapid Deployment Unit.

Details of the investigation emerged Wednesday in Lane County Circuit Court, where former Eugene police officer Roger Eugene Magana is being tried on charges that he raped, sexually abused and harassed women during his eight years as a police officer.

The trial resumes at 9 a.m. today.
