Thru Aug 7: Annie Leibovitz: American Music--Leibovitz cut her teeth as a portrait photographer capturing the musical heyday of the sixties for Rolling Stone, and here she returns to the subject that launched her career. Peruse her images of musicians both famous and obscure as you listen to their songs at iPod stations; also, Charles Mary Kubricht: Scanning the Grand Canyon--using her digital camera as an "electronic sketchbook," Kubricht transformed her images of the Grand Canyon into 13 large-scale paintings. BOB BULLOCK TEXAS STATE HISTORY MUSEUM This museum, which is named for the former Texas lieutenant governor, houses three floors of exhibits that trace the history of Texas. Thru Sep4: Texas Movies--more than a century of the state's cinematic contributions are heralded in this exhibit, which includes costumes, props, and production documents from more than 80 films. Take a closer look at the oil-drenched clothes James Dean wore in Giant and the vintage Chevy Bel Air police cruiser from Sin City, and learn about such homegrown filmmakers as Richard Linklater and Wes Anderson. HARRY RANSOM HUMANITIES RESEARCH CENTER
Items in the center's collection range from a Gutenberg Bible to the world's first photograph (taken in 3826). The center also houses some 36 million literary manuscripts, including those by James Joyce, Ernest Hemingway, and Tennessee Williams.
