Will Venable and Seth Johnston had a rough first few weeks in Eugene.

Yet the two Emeralds stayed confident and kept working on their swings, and those things finally paid off Saturday evening when they led the Emeralds to a 7-5 win over Yakima in Northwest League baseball in front of 4,011 at Civic Stadium.

Venable got the Emeralds started with a home run and went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Johnston was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

The two were struggling at the plate since joining the Ems earlier this month. Venable entered Saturday batting .086 in 14 games, and Johnston was at .105 in 15 games.

"Everyone here knows they belong here and everyone can hit, so for Seth and I it was a matter of time," Venable said. "I'm glad it finally happened."

The same goes for Johnston.
