MARCOLA - It was a glimpse of simpler times in small-town Marcola on Saturday, and it obviously felt good.

Hundreds of people lined the main road to cheer a mid-morning parade of their friends, neighbors, kids, dogs, horses, motorcycles, old cars and homemade floats. Then they all strolled into what amounts to the town square - a large, tree-shaded area by the fire station - to begin the 23rd annual Mary Cole Celebration.
