Eugene got the performance it had been waiting to see.

"Finally, we put it all together," catcher Brandon Gottier said after the Emeralds defeated Yakima 7-2 in front of 3,381 on Friday at Civic Stadium. "We got pitching and hitting and when you do that, good things happen."

Eugene (17-21) snapped a four-game losing streak and avoided being stuck with the worst record in the Northwest League by giving that dubious record to Yakima (16-22).

"We'd like to get this turned around, and losing four in a row is bad, but starting off the game we weren't thinking of that," said pitcher Josh Geer, who earned the win with seven strong innings. "Just play the game and the hits will come around and pitching will come around."
