The local Gauteng Provincial Government recently selected Canada-based BOMBARDIER TRANSPORTATION to negotiate, as the lead member of the Bombela international consortium, the terms of a concession for the financing, design, construction, and operation and maintenance of the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link. The planned 80 km-long Gautrain system is intended to link Johannesburg, Tshwane and the Johannesburg International Airport.
The Bombela consortium also includes BOUYGUES TRAVAUX PUBLICS of France a subsidiary of BOUYGUES CONSTRUCTION, MURRAY & ROBERTS of South Africa, RATP DEVELOPMENT a major French rail and bus operating company, LOLIWE RAIL CONTRACTORS and LOLIWE RAIL EXPRESS, which are partnerships of South African companies.
