Elgin's neighborhoods, especially those located on the near- southeast side, will team with volunteers during the Elgin United Way's "Extreme Community Makeover" on Sept. 9.

The event, which is the agency's annual Day of Caring, is designed for hundreds of community volunteers to spruce up neighborhoods at projects at more than two dozen United Way- supported agencies, said Lynn Bosley, president of the United Way of Elgin.
