Is the Atkins diet dead? Well, at least it is in Elgin. Particularly for athletes entering the Elgin Cycling Classic next Sunday.

To get people geared up for that race, Cafe Magdalena in downtown Elgin will host a carbohydrate-filled dinner on Saturday so you can stock up on carbs the day before the bike race. Spaghetti and garlic bread is some of the food you can chow down during the all-you-can-eat extravaganza.

Bread and pasta are two of the Atkins' diet's no-nos.
