Corn farmers would benefit from CAFTA

The U.S. corn refining industry is a strong supporter of the Dominican Republic-Central American Free Trade Agreement because of the excellent trade opportunities it will create through shrinking import quotas and tariffs and increased competition. As we have seen in other bilateral and regional free-trade agreements, exports grow to the benefit of producers and consumers in all nations, and CAFTA will be no different.

Illinois is a leading state for corn refining. CAFTA offers excellent prospects to increase exports of value-added, refined corn products. These exports will boost corn utilization and add well-paying jobs in Illinois and offer Central American consumers access to products not produced within their countries.
