Trans-Industries Inc. is hoping that mass-transit spending is beginning to increase nationwide - a sign that state and local governments may start budgeting to buy the company's vehicle lighting systems and digital information-display products.

Auburn Hills-based Trans-Industries (Nasdaq: TRNI) is hoping that sign will spell a turnaround for the company, which has struggled for several years. Southfield-based Plante & Moran P.L.L.C. issued a going concern opinion in the company's 2004 annual report, citing continuing losses, a cash crunch and a credit-line default.

Last year, Trans-Industries reported a net loss of $3.97 million or $1.27 a share on sales of $27.76 million. That compares with a net loss of $3.76 million, or $1.20 on sales of $33.72 million in 2003. The company has posted losses every year since 2000....
