Article Excerpt - Marine Corps Pfc. Paul Abraham, son of Orham Abraham of Elgin, recently reported for duty with Anti-Terrorism Battalion, 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Abraham is a 2003 graduate of Elgin High School and joined the Marine Corps in July 2004.
- Marine Corps Pvt. Dimitrius L. Bell, son of Vicki Bell of Elgin and Jerry Bell of Aurora, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.
Bell and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a.m., by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Bell spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to- hand combat and assorted weapons training. They performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training.
Bell and other recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps' core values of honor, courage and commitment, and what the core values mean in guiding personal and professional conduct.
Bell and fellow recruits ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour, team evolution culminating in an emotional ceremony in which recruits are presented the Marine Corps Emblem, and addressed as Marines for the first time in their careers.
- Army Reserve Pfc. Chad W. Benner has graduated from the Automated Logistical Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at the U.S. Army Quartermaster Center and School, Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va.
The course is designed to train soldiers to establish and maintain stock records and other documents such as inventory, material control, accounting and support reports, automated and manual accounting records; perform stock record/warehouse functions pertaining to receipt, storage, distribution and issue and maintain equipment records and parts; review and verify bills of lading, contracts, and purchase orders; repair and construct shipping crates for equipment and supplies, and perform prescribed loads and shop stock lists in manual and automated supply applications.
Benner is the son of Gail Benner and David Benner, both of Elgin. He is a 2004 graduate of Larkin High School, Elgin.
