Speculation recently became reality as Gov. Haley Barbour and Mississippi Development Authority executive director Leland Speed announced the appointment of Tupelo banker Mike Armour as director of the Appalachian Regional Commission in the state.

Armour's name had been circulating for quite some time as the top candidate for the post, given his professional experience and his long-time friendship with Barbour.

For the past eight years, Armour, 47, has worked at The Peoples Bank & Trust Co. in Tupelo, where he served as vice president and senior relations officer in the private banking division.
